Tesla is actively recruiting personnel to train its humanoid robot, Optimus. The position, titled "Data Collector," offers an hourly wage of up to $48 (approximately 344 RMB). Candidates are expected to walk over seven hours daily while carrying equipment weighing up to 30 pounds (about 13.61 kilograms) and wearing VR headsets for extended periods.
To apply, candidates must be between 5 feet 7 inches (approximately 1.7 meters) and 5 feet 11 inches (approximately 1.8 meters) tall to match Optimus’s height of about 5 feet 8 inches (approximately 1.72 meters). The official Optimus X account has previously teased this position. According to Business Insider, Tesla has already recruited over 50 individuals for this role within the past year.
Motion capture is a highly effective method for training robots in human-like movements, and Tesla is one of the first companies to adopt this technique on a large scale. While some videos online showcase Optimus performing various tasks, NVIDIA's senior researcher Animesh Garg emphasizes that Optimus may require millions of hours of data before being fully prepared for operation within Tesla factories.
CEO Elon Musk has pledged to introduce a "truly useful" robot by next year, although he acknowledges that this ambitious goal is still in the speculative phase.
