Amazon is excited to announce the rollout of its AI-generated image feature on Fire TV devices. Starting today, this innovative capability is available in the U.S. for users with the second-generation Fire TV Stick 4K Max and Fire TV Omni QLED Series.
Powered by Amazon’s Titan Image Generator, this feature was first unveiled at AWS re:Invent 2023 in November. Much like other image generators such as Stability AI and OpenAI’s DALL-E 3, the Titan model transforms written prompts into stunning visuals. However, Fire TV’s functionality takes it a step further by allowing users to create images using their voice through Alexa via the TV remote.
For example, users can simply say, “Alexa, create a background of a fairy landscape,” and the system will generate four unique images. From there, they can customize their selections by opting for various artistic styles, including impressionistic, watercolor, and fantasy. Once they choose their favorite image, users have the option to save it and set it as their TV backdrop.
While the Titan model can customize existing images, this feature on Fire TV won’t support that at launch. Amazon has not provided a timeline for when users might be able to upload personal photos to the generator.
This image generator is part of the Fire TV Ambient Experience, which transforms your TV into a smart display, featuring serene backgrounds created by artists or personal images from an Amazon Photos account. This experience has recently been added to the Fire TV Stick 4K Max, expanding on its availability within Amazon’s Omni QLED range of Fire TVs.
At its 2023 devices event, Amazon showcased several updates related to Fire TV, including enhanced voice search capabilities. This allows users to query Alexa with more specific requests, such as finding titles based on cast members, directors, and genres or even describing scenes from movies.
This latest announcement follows Amazon’s introduction of three new generative AI-powered Alexa features, which include interactive games like “20 Questions,” engaging conversations with AI characters, and the ability to create custom songs.
Incorporating generative AI into Fire TV not only enriches user experience but also exemplifies Amazon's commitment to innovation in smart home technology.
