AMD Unveils Epyc Embedded Processors for High-Performance, Energy-Efficient Devices

AMD has unveiled its EPYC Embedded 8004 Series processors, marking a significant advancement in high-performance, low-wattage computing tailored for the embedded market.

With a proven track record in setting industry standards, AMD’s EPYC embedded processors deliver outstanding performance, energy efficiency, connectivity, and innovative solutions for networking, storage, and industrial applications.

Today marks the launch of AMD's fourth-generation EPYC Embedded 8004 Series processors, designed for compute-intensive embedded systems. These processors excel in handling high-demand workloads while maximizing power efficiency (performance-per-watt) within a compact form factor, ideal for space- and power-constrained applications. Additionally, the embedded features integrated into the EPYC Embedded 8004 enhance overall system performance and reliability.

This series is perfect for challenging environments such as networking systems, routers, security appliances, enterprise, and cloud storage, as well as industrial edge applications, ensuring efficient management of dynamic workloads.

The EPYC Embedded 8004 Series leverages AMD's advanced "Zen 4c" cores, enabling exceptional core density and performance-per-watt. This series is the first in the AMD embedded portfolio to incorporate these cores, setting a new standard for platform efficiency and innovation.

As a result, hardware providers can create differentiated, energy-efficient platforms that offer up to a 30% performance-per-watt improvement compared to the previous generation (Zen 3).

Available in 1P configurations with 12 to 64 cores (24 to 128 threads) and supporting up to 1.152TB DDR5 memory (2 DIMMs/channel with 96GB DIMM size), these processors cater to a wide range of application needs, featuring Thermal Design Power (TDP) profiles from 70W to 225W.

The EPYC Embedded 8004 Series processors are adept at managing data-intensive workloads, thanks to high-speed I/O connectivity with 96 lanes of PCIe® Gen 5 and expansive memory bandwidth through 6 channels of DDR5-4800. These capabilities facilitate seamless integration of SSDs, networking cards, and additional components, enabling flexible and scalable system configurations.

With a compact SP6 socket form factor that is 19% smaller than the previous EPYC Embedded 9004 Series, these processors optimize space and energy efficiency. Furthermore, they are backed by a robust 7-year lifecycle support, ensuring longevity for system designs.
