WhatsApp is currently testing a new feature that allows users to create custom stickers using generative AI. As reported by WABetaInfo, this feature is available to a select group of testers through the Google Play Beta Program, with a broader rollout expected in the coming weeks.
Participants in the test will notice a "Create" button in the sticker tab of the keyboard. Utilizing this tool, users can enter a description of the sticker they wish to create, and the AI will generate a variety of options to choose from for sharing in chats. These AI-generated stickers are designed to be easily recognizable, with recipients likely notified if a sticker was created by an AI model. Users also have the option to report any stickers deemed harmful or inappropriate.
A Meta spokesperson stated, “Our generative AI-powered experiences are under development in varying phases, and we’re testing a range of them publicly in a limited capacity.”
As generative AI continues to be integrated into popular applications, WhatsApp's introduction of AI-generated stickers could enhance personalization in chats. This feature offers an alternative to the commonly used stickers, GIFs, and memes, enabling users to personalize their conversations without needing advanced design skills. Rumors also suggest that similar features may soon be available on Instagram and Messenger.
