AWS and SAP Join Forces to Deliver Cutting-Edge AI Cloud Tools for Enhanced Business Applications

AWS and SAP have launched an innovative collaboration aimed at accelerating the adoption of generative AI through tailored cloud-based solutions for businesses. This partnership will enable SAP users to leverage Amazon’s generative AI platform, Bedrock, integrated with SAP's AI Core infrastructure service. Through this integration, businesses will gain access to a variety of advanced large language models, such as Anthropic’s Claude 3, empowering them to enhance their AI-driven applications.

Matt Garman, the incoming CEO of AWS, highlighted the significance of this collaboration, stating, “AWS was the first cloud provider certified to support the SAP portfolio, and today, thousands of enterprise companies run SAP solutions on AWS to maximize their mission-critical applications. Now, AWS and SAP are simplifying the process for companies to implement generative AI across their core business data, enhancing efficiency, responsiveness, and sustainability.”

As part of this strategic alliance, SAP will utilize AWS’s advanced Graviton4 chips to optimize workloads on its HANA Cloud service. Building on its previous use of Graviton3 chips, SAP anticipates a 30% performance increase for analytical workloads. Furthermore, SAP will harness AWS’s specialized AI hardware—Trainium and Inferentia chips—which significantly accelerate AI and machine learning workload processing. Notably, SAP engineers could train and refine large language models in just two days with these AI chips, compared to 23 days when using Amazon's traditional EC2 instances.

In addition to these advancements, businesses will benefit from a suite of embedded use cases available within RISE, SAP's robust cloud suite of AI tools hosted on the AWS platform. This includes the utilization of Project Kuiper, Amazon’s satellite broadband initiative, which will support supply chain and manufacturing operations.

Christian Klein, CEO of SAP, emphasized the critical nature of such partnerships, stating, “Collaborations like this with AWS are essential as we integrate generative AI solutions into our enterprise resource planning (ERP) applications, allowing customers to innovate more rapidly. We are committed to delivering modern cloud ERP services to our mutual customers and are excited to assist Amazon in its transformation journey as it embraces RISE with SAP for groundbreaking projects like Project Kuiper, which aims to expand global broadband access.”

This exciting partnership signifies a pivotal moment in the fusion of cloud technology and AI, offering businesses enhanced capabilities to innovate and thrive in an increasingly data-driven world.
