OpenAI is currently testing a ChatGPT app for Windows, exclusively available to paid users. You can download an early version from the Microsoft Store. Similar to the Mac version, the Windows app allows users to engage with the AI-powered chatbot in a dedicated window, which can be conveniently accessed alongside other applications. Enhanced usability comes with the Alt + Space shortcut for quick access.
The app offers functionality to upload files and photos and includes a preview of OpenAI's o1 model, known for its reasoning capabilities. However, it's important to note that some features, such as advanced voice mode, are still in development.
After the initial launch of the Mac version in June, a security vulnerability was identified that stored conversations in plain text. OpenAI has addressed this issue, ensuring that locally stored data is now encrypted. While the app is currently limited to ChatGPT Plus, Enterprise, Team, and Edu subscribers, OpenAI plans to make it available to all users later this year.
