Google’s NotebookLM now enables users to customize its podcast-style Audio Overviews. Before generating a discussion with the note-taking app, you can instruct the AI hosts on specific topics and tailor their discussions for various audiences. Last month, Google introduced these Audio Overviews featuring two AI hosts who engage in a lively discussion of your research. However, it's important to note that these overviews are not comprehensive or objective; they simply reflect the sources you’ve uploaded and the instructions you provide.

To customize the conversation, open a notebook in NotebookLM, select “Notebook guide,” and navigate to “Deep dive conversation.” Click “Customize” and enter your desired instructions. NotebookLM will generate a conversation based on your input.

In addition to removing the “experimental” label from NotebookLM, Google has rolled out background listening for Audio Overviews, allowing you to hear the AI hosts while working in other areas of the app. Furthermore, NotebookLM now includes the ability to delve deeper into YouTube videos with transcriptions.
