ChatGPT Users Can Now Directly Invoke GPTs Within Their Chats for Enhanced Interactions

OpenAI is accelerating the adoption of GPTs, third-party applications powered by its advanced AI models, by allowing users of ChatGPT to easily integrate them into their conversations.

Starting today, paid ChatGPT users can seamlessly incorporate GPTs by typing “@” and selecting a GPT from the available list. This functionality enables the selected GPT to engage in the conversation with a comprehensive understanding of earlier exchanges, allowing multiple GPTs to be used for various applications and needs—easily jumping into the dialogue with relevant context.

“This feature allows you to introduce relevant GPTs while retaining the full context of the conversation,” OpenAI shared via a recent tweet.

You can now incorporate GPTs into any ChatGPT dialogue—just type @ and choose your desired GPT. This enhances your conversations with the relevant context provided by the GPT.

The initiative to make GPTs more accessible follows the recent launch of the GPT Store, a dedicated marketplace for GPTs available through the ChatGPT dashboard. Creating GPTs requires no coding skills, allowing developers to design GPTs that range from simple to sophisticated. Some popular options currently available include a trail recommender from AllTrails, a coding tutor from Khan Academy, and a content design tool from Canva.

OpenAI is also aiming to introduce monetization options for developers interested in selling their GPTs. However, attracting more users is essential before this can happen. Data from Similarweb indicates that custom GPTs only account for approximately 2.7% of ChatGPT’s global web traffic, with this figure trending downward since November.

Moderation presents another significant challenge. Following its launch, the GPT Store was inundated with “romantic” chatbot applications, some of which contained sexually suggestive content—clear violations of OpenAI’s terms. Additionally, developers quickly created political campaign bots, including one that imitated U.S. presidential hopeful Dean Phillips, which also breached guidelines.

OpenAI, which claims to utilize both human and automated reviews to monitor GPTs, has since removed several of these inappropriate applications. However, as the number of available GPTs grows, the potential for moderation issues is likely to increase.
