CrowdStrike Enhancements Introduce Malware Amid Escalating Attacks

After the recent CrowdStrike outage, cybercriminals are seizing the opportunity to launch social engineering attacks on the security vendor's customers. Following the widespread effects of the event – causing disruptions in transportation, retail, healthcare, and more – national cybersecurity agencies in the U.S., U.K., Canada, and Australia have reported a surge in phishing attempts by malicious actors. BforeAI CEO Luigi Lenguito notes that these post-CrowdStrike attacks are not only more numerous but also more focused compared to typical responses to major news events.

Lenguito highlights the significant increase in targeted attacks following the CrowdStrike incident. In a comparison to the cyber threats related to an attack on Trump last week, where the volume peaked at 200 threats on the first day and then gradually decreased to 40-50 threats daily, the current situation is alarming. The number of attacks post-CrowdStrike has escalated to 150-300 per day, marking a threefold increase in malicious activities. This elevated level of targeted attacks far exceeds the norm for incidents tied to news events.
