On Wednesday, Meta confirmed rumors from earlier in the week at its Connect event, announcing the launch of a new line of digital personalities based on the Meta AI chatbot platform. This innovative platform will allow users to interact with AI across Meta’s various applications, including WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, and soon on Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses and Quest 3.
Meta AI is designed to respond to natural language prompts and utilizes a custom model based on the Meta LLaMA 2 large language model. It will also access real-time information through Microsoft Bing.
Additionally, Meta is introducing 28 unique chatbot "characters," each tailored to specific interests. These personalities will be voiced by a diverse lineup of influencers and celebrities, including:
- Charli D’Amelio as Coco: Dance enthusiast
- Chris Paul as Perry: Pro golfer offering tips
- Dwyane Wade as Victor: Motivational Ironman triathlete
- Izzy Adesanya as Luiz: Confident MMA prospect
- Kendall Jenner as Billie: Straight-talking, loyal companion
- LaurDIY as Dylan: Quirky DIY and craft expert for Gen Z

Since the launch of ChatGPT last November, Meta has taken a measured approach to introducing its generative AI chatbot, focusing primarily on its LLaMA platform and a suite of AI-enhanced, multimodal tools.
