Elon Musk has revived his lawsuit against OpenAI, alleging that the company and its founders, Sam Altman and Greg Brockman, violated their founding mission to develop artificial intelligence for the benefit of humanity. The newly filed lawsuit in Northern California accuses Altman and Brockman of misleading Musk into co-founding OpenAI by promising a nonprofit structure that would prioritize safety and transparency over profit-driven motives. Musk's legal team claims these assurances were merely a tactic to manipulate him.
This lawsuit is more robust compared to Musk's earlier, withdrawn case, which had centered on claims that OpenAI failed to uphold its founding agreement to keep its technology open source. Musk's lawyer, Marc Toberoff, noted that this new suit alleges violations of federal racketeering laws as part of a conspiracy to defraud Musk. Additionally, the lawsuit contends that OpenAI's partnership with Microsoft would undermine the company's commitment to making its technology accessible, particularly once artificial general intelligence (AGI) is achieved.
