Elon Musk Set to Develop xAI Supercomputer for Enhanced Grok Experience

Elon Musk recently informed investors that his startup, xAI, aims to develop a supercomputer by fall 2025 to enhance its Grok chatbot, as reported by The Information. Described by Musk as a “gigafactory of compute,” this supercomputer will utilize tens of thousands of NVIDIA H100 GPUs, with projected costs running into the billions. Musk previously noted that the upcoming third version of Grok will require at least 100,000 GPUs, significantly up from the 20,000 currently used for training Grok 2.0.

According to The Information, Musk revealed that the new GPU cluster would be at least four times larger than what xAI's competitors are using today. Currently, Grok is in version 1.5, released in April, which includes the capability to process visual information, such as photographs and diagrams, in addition to text. Earlier this month, the platform began rolling out AI-generated news summaries powered by Grok for premium users.
