Google is enhancing its Gemini writing tools in Gmail to help you refine your drafts. Among the new features is the “Polish” option, which joins existing tools like “Formalize” and “Elaborate.” According to a recent blog post, these tools now also appear as shortcuts within your emails on Android and iOS, making AI writing assistance more accessible.
These features are available to users with Google One AI Premium accounts or those who have subscribed to Google’s Gemini add-on for Workspace. When you open a new draft, a “Help me write” shortcut will prompt you to leverage Gemini’s capabilities. Once you have at least 12 words—regardless of whether they are AI-generated—you will see a gray “Refine my draft” shortcut.
By swiping on this shortcut, you can choose from options like “Polish,” “Elaborate,” “Formalize,” or “Shorten,” or even request that Gemini create an entirely new draft for you. If you don’t see the “Refine my draft” shortcut, tapping the pencil icon will provide you with the same features.
