IBM has significantly broadened its software offerings on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Marketplace, now reaching customers in 92 countries, up from just five. This expansion is part of a strategic partnership between IBM and AWS, with the objective of accelerating the adoption of hybrid cloud and AI technologies across enterprises globally.
“We’re witnessing a hybrid approach to generative AI, with an open multimodal framework emerging,” said Nick Otto, Head of Global Strategic Partnerships at IBM, during an exclusive media interview. “It's exciting to observe the convergence of hybrid cloud and AI over the past year.”
The enhanced AWS Marketplace features 44 IBM software products, focusing on AI and data technologies like Watson x.data, Watson x.ai, and the forthcoming Watson x.governance. Customers can now procure these solutions using their existing AWS spending commitments, simplifying the purchasing process and reducing complexity.
“We have exciting announcements on the horizon regarding the integration of our data AI capabilities with AWS’s native features,” Otto added. “We anticipate even more collaboration between our offerings and AWS's services, making it easier for clients to leverage these capabilities.”
This partnership benefits all parties involved—customers, AWS, and IBM. Matt Yanchyshyn, GM at AWS Marketplace, noted that “IBM is a leader in enterprise software, and their expanded presence in the AWS Marketplace will enhance selection and choices for customers.” Joint customers can utilize AWS Marketplace's numerous SaaS-specific features, streamlining the discovery, purchasing, deployment, and management of AWS-optimized SaaS solutions.
As businesses increasingly adopt SaaS for digital transformation, cloud adoption for the Forbes Global 2000 companies could yield an estimated $3 trillion in value by 2030, according to McKinsey.
For IBM, its expanded AWS Marketplace presence could greatly boost its cloud software business. A 2022 Forrester study revealed that independent software vendors (ISVs) on AWS Marketplace experience 27% higher win rates, 40% faster sales cycles, and 80% larger deal sizes.
Furthermore, this collaboration amplifies IBM’s consulting services, with dedicated AWS experts aiding clients in modernizing applications, optimizing hybrid cloud deployments, and leveraging AI capabilities. “The growth rate of IBM consultants certified in AWS over the past three years has been virtually limitless,” Otto remarked.
As enterprises increasingly embrace hybrid cloud strategies and the potential of AI, partnerships like IBM and AWS are vital for delivering seamless, integrated solutions. With this global expansion of IBM’s software offerings on the AWS Marketplace, both companies are poised to lead this transformative trend, empowering customers to achieve new levels of innovation and competitive advantage.
