Google has harnessed its expertise in artificial intelligence to explore innovative applications in creative fields such as fashion and dance. The company has recently launched two experimental web apps, accessible through the Arts and Culture app available on the web, iOS, and Android.
The first app, Runway Palette, categorizes the work of nearly 1,000 fashion designers by color. Collaborating with Business of Fashion, Google utilized a machine-learning algorithm on a vast collection of over 140,000 images from approximately 4,000 fashion shows. Users can explore this colorful archive through an engaging interactive visualization tool or by photographing their clothing to discover similar styles.
The second app, Living Archive, focuses on dance choreography. This tool compiles nearly half a million poses from acclaimed British choreographer Wayne McGregor. Users can capture and create their own dance routines, enhancing their creative process. In fact, McGregor's studio utilized the tool this past July to develop choreography for a premiere at the LA Music Center.
Google is not alone in this creative AI landscape. In September, Facebook introduced an AI tool aimed at helping users refine their outfits for a more stylish appearance. As AI continues to evolve, we can anticipate further innovations across diverse creative domains.
