At Mobile World Congress 2024, Lenovo, a leading PC manufacturer, unveiled an innovative laptop featuring a transparent display, setting a new standard for future computing experiences. This proof-of-concept, called the ThinkBook, is equipped with a stunning 17.3-inch Micro-LED transparent display that boasts a seamless, borderless design.
One of the standout features of this laptop is its glass keyboard, which not only functions as a traditional input device but also serves as a drawing pad. Lenovo provides a digital pen that complements this functionality, enriching the user experience. The transparent display allows users to see physical objects or their surroundings while superimposing digital content, fostering unique applications for personal computing.
For instance, artists can visualize an object positioned behind the laptop on the display and seamlessly integrate digital sketches and enhancements, creating a captivating mixed-reality environment. While this prototype is not intended for market release, it embodies Lenovo's commitment to pioneering advanced technologies. However, if the laptop were to be commercialized, Tom Butler, executive director of the commercial notebook portfolio at Lenovo, mentioned it would be equipped with a feature to switch the display from transparent to opaque.
In addition to this groundbreaking laptop, Lenovo and Motorola reintroduced a foldable smartphone that can be flexibly worn on the wrist or carried elsewhere. This device showcases Lenovo’s expertise in display and mechanical innovations, built on their developments in foldable and rollable technology.
Lenovo also rolled out a new series of AI-integrated PCs including the ThinkPad T14 i Gen 5, ThinkPad T14s Gen 5, ThinkPad T16 Gen 3, ThinkPad X12 Detachable Gen 2, and ThinkBook 14 2-in-1 Gen 4. These models are powered by advanced AI hardware featuring Intel Core Ultra processors and run on Windows 11, complete with a dedicated AI key for Microsoft Copilot AI assistance. This new lineup of AI PCs is set to commence shipping in the Spring, promising to enhance productivity and streamline user interactions with intelligent technology.
