Google Introduces Exciting New AI Features for Workspace at Cloud Next 2024

Google has unveiled a suite of innovative AI-driven tools for Google Workspace, aimed at boosting productivity, during the Google Cloud Next 2024 event in Las Vegas. Among the standout introductions is Google Vids, an AI-powered video creation application tailored for professional environments. This tool allows users to produce video content using simple, natural language prompts. For instance, by entering a request like “Create a sales training video,” Vids generates a comprehensive storyboard outline, streamlining the video creation process.

Vids provides users with a range of customization options, enabling them to modify the video’s style and select the stock media elements, such as images and background music. Moreover, users can enhance their videos with voice-overs, choosing from preset voices or crafting a unique voice with the integrated Recording Studio feature. Once the storyboard is finalized, Vids efficiently generates the corresponding video directly within the browser.

"Video has become a vital storytelling medium due to its immediacy and ability to effectively convey messages," remarked Aparna Pappu, Google’s General Manager and Vice President for Workspace. "However, getting started with video production can be intimidating. Vids features a user-friendly interface similar to that of Docs, Sheets, and Slides, and accommodates secure collaboration and project sharing directly from your browser. This innovative app empowers everyone to become effective storytellers in their workplaces."

In addition to Vids, Google has launched Workspace Labs—a testing ground for new productivity tools—set to debut in June. Initially, access will be granted to a select group of users prior to wider availability.

The announcement also included two new commercial offerings that introduce AI-powered features aimed at enhancing meeting efficiency and security. Priced at $10 per user per month, “Take Notes for Me” automatically captures and translates discussions from meetings. This feature supports 68 languages, providing succinct conversation summaries. Enterprise clients will be able to translate dialogues within Google Meet, with plans to extend automatic translation for messages and summaries in Google Chat later this year.

Another AI security feature, also available for $10 per user per month, focuses on the classification and protection of sensitive files across Google Drive. Utilizing privacy-respecting AI models, this tool enables IT teams to designate files for enhanced security, ensuring sensitive information is adequately safeguarded.

Google's commitment to data protection extends to the realm of quantum computing. The company announced that it is implementing experimental protections against potential quantum attacks on sensitive enterprise data. By partnering with Thales and Fortanix, Google is integrating post-quantum cryptography into client-side encryption, equipping organizations to mitigate risks posed by quantum-enhanced threats.

Additionally, Google announced users can seamlessly integrate custom AI models into Workspace via the Vertex AI platform. This feature allows Workspace users to deploy tailored models and agent-based systems within popular applications like Docs and Gmail, enhancing workflows and productivity. With over 130 options available in Vertex’s Model Garden, users can leverage custom models to further refine their Workspace experience.

With its array of AI tools and features, Google Workspace continues to evolve, providing users with powerful solutions designed to meet the demands of modern work environments. The integration of artificial intelligence not only enhances productivity but also empowers users to create compelling content and secure sensitive information effectively.
