Google unveiled its new image generation app, Pixel Studio, at the Pixel 9 event today. This innovative app will be preinstalled on every Pixel 9 device.
Similar to Apple's upcoming Image Playground, set to launch with iOS 18, Pixel Studio allows users to create images from a text prompt. Users can refine their creations by editing elements, adjusting the style, and changing the overall feel of the image.
During the live demonstration, a bonfire image transformed into a beach-themed hangout invitation featuring the Golden Gate Bridge and fireworks in a pixel art style, complete with personalized details and stickers. The app utilizes on-device AI and Google’s cloud-based Imagen 3 text-to-image model, requiring an internet connection to function.
Pixel Studio complements other AI features introduced for Pixel phones, such as the new Pixel Screenshots tool, which operates similarly to Microsoft’s Recall feature but allows for manual screenshot capturing.
