Last September, Google launched Search with Live View, an innovative feature within Maps that enhances the app's augmented reality capabilities. Initially, this feature was exclusive to users in cities like London, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Paris, and Tokyo. Now, Google is expanding access to Search with Live View in Barcelona, Dublin, and Madrid in the coming months.
Additionally, Google is significantly broadening the availability of Live View in indoor spaces, deploying this functionality in over 1,000 new airports, train stations, and shopping malls across cities including Barcelona, London, Madrid, Paris, and Singapore. This rollout will occur over the next few months.
In a separate announcement, Google demonstrated its advancements in AI-augmented search. One notable demo involved summarizing the best constellations for stargazing. However, Google's presentation lacked the polish of Microsoft’s recent “new Bing” showcase, which provided footnotes and sources for its summaries—a feature not present in Google’s demonstration.
