Google Photos Enhances Memories Feature with Generative AI Update

Google Photos has received a significant update that enhances its popular Memories feature with generative AI. This update makes scrapbook montages more personalized, allowing the AI to organize your photos and videos into meaningful collections, such as a recent vacation. The app will create catchy titles for these montages, offering a more intuitive user experience.

While Google Photos already offered some level of automated montage creation, this update promises substantial improvements. However, users can still rename collections or edit montages if the AI misses the mark.

All scrapbook montages are now conveniently organized in a dedicated Memories tab, streamlining access without the need for constant push notifications. Users can easily click on the Memories tab to explore their curated content. This update also retains features like adding music to montages and sharing memories directly through the app.

Additionally, the update encourages collaboration, allowing friends and family to co-create scrapbook entries. Users can invite others to contribute their own photos and videos, make edits, and delete any images that don't fit the theme. The AI will help suggest photos based on geotagging and other relevant criteria.

Looking ahead, Google plans to enhance sharing options, enabling users to save these collections in popular video formats for easy sharing via messaging and social media platforms.

The new Google Photos update is starting to roll out in the United States today, with a global launch expected in the coming months. This is the second integration of generative AI into Google Photos this year, following improvements made to the Magic Editor tool, which uses AI to eliminate unwanted elements from photos.
