Mobile app developers, including notable names like Patreon and Grammarly, are actively integrating with Gemini Nano, Google's smallest AI model, as announced during the Google I/O 2024 developer keynote on Tuesday. These companies, alongside a select group of developers, have been invited to participate in an early access program launched last year. Google plans to expand access to the Gemini Nano model for more developers in the coming months.
For instance, Patreon is working on a new feature that enables creators to quickly catch up on unread messages, similar to how Google is using Gemini within Gmail to summarize emails. Additionally, Grammarly has been testing Gemini Nano to improve its smart suggestions technology, enhancing users' writing skills.
While Google did not provide extensive details about these integrations, it highlighted them as examples of how developers can leverage Gemini Nano for their applications and services.
During the keynote, Google also unveiled several updates for Gemini, including enhancements for its own applications like Messages, YouTube, and Gmail—both on web and mobile platforms. These updates aim to streamline user experiences on Android smartphones, featuring improvements such as fraud call warnings and a variety of other innovative functions.
