Google Shuts Down AI-Driven Photos Printing Service
Google is set to discontinue its automated Photos printing service on June 30th, as reported by Droid Life and Tech media outlet. While the company has not specified the reasons for this decision in its notice to subscribers, it expressed intentions to "evolve this feature" and broaden its availability in the future.
The $8 per month trial allowed users to select their top 10 photos—chosen based on faces, landscapes, or a combination of both—and have them printed on 4x6 cardstock. Users could also request edits, making the prints suitable for gifts or cherished keepsakes, rather than mere digital files.
The service, however, faced challenges due to its timing. Announced in February, it coincided with widespread pandemic lockdowns, which limited social interactions and travel—making it difficult for users to justify spending on a photo service. Should Google develop a successor, it may take some time to emerge.
