Google Unveils AI-Enhanced Photo Editing Features for Latest Pixel Phones

Google unveiled exciting new AI-powered features today for its latest Pixel 8 series smartphones, including Magic Editor and Best Take. Magic Editor allows users to fill in backgrounds and reposition subjects, while Best Take merges multiple shots to create the ideal group photo.

With Magic Editor, simply tap or circle an object to shift or resize it effortlessly. This innovative tool leverages generative AI to recreate backgrounds when objects are moved, and it provides presets for easy background modifications.

Additionally, Magic Editor offers contextual suggestions based on the lighting and background of your images. Users can also explore multiple editing options to find the most satisfying outcome. This feature was initially introduced in May during Google I/O.

It's important to note that Google mentioned the Magic Editor is still in its “early stages,” so some results may not always meet expectations.

The Best Take feature offers a seamless way to create group photos by combining different images where everyone is captured without blinking or looking away. Users can opt to merge expressions from various shots, allowing for a custom blend of facial expressions—effectively swapping faces while retaining the original composition.

Both the Best Take and Magic Editor features will be available on the Pixel 8 series starting October 12.

The new Pixel phones will also include the Magic Eraser, which removes unwanted elements from photos, and an enhanced Photo Unblur feature for fixing blurry images. Notably, the Pixel 8 Pro will showcase an upgraded version of Magic Eraser, enabling the removal of larger objects with greater ease.

Furthermore, Google is introducing Zoom Enhance on the Pixel 8 Pro, which employs generative AI to enhance photo quality and fill in pixel gaps when cropping images. This feature will be rolled out later for the Pixel 8 Pro.

The announcement also included the launch of the Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, and Pixel Watch 2.
