Google's Bard AI Chatbot Now Capable of Answering Your YouTube Video Questions

Google has announced an exciting update for its Bard AI chatbot, which is now capable of answering questions about YouTube videos. Previously, with the introduction of the YouTube Extension in September, Bard could analyze videos, but it has now broadened its functionality to provide specific answers related to video content.

“We’re taking significant steps toward enhancing Bard’s understanding of YouTube videos,” the company shared on its Bard updates page. “For instance, if you’re searching for videos on how to make olive oil cake, you can now ask Bard how many eggs the recipe in the first video requires. We understand your desire for deeper engagement with YouTube, and we are expanding the YouTube Extension to facilitate richer conversations about video content.”

Before this enhancement, the YouTube Extension primarily helped users locate specific videos, such as finding humorous clips. Now, you can ask pointed questions about the content of particular videos. For example, if you're watching a travel vlog and spot a location that piques your interest, you can inquire about its exact whereabouts.

This announcement follows YouTube's recent experiments with new generative AI features, including an AI-driven conversational tool that provides answers about YouTube content and a comments summarizer that organizes discussions within video comment sections.

The conversational tool utilizes advanced language models that draw from both YouTube and web resources, allowing users to engage with the AI while the video is playing. Meanwhile, the comments summarizer uses generative AI to succinctly present the key topics discussed in the comments, offering users a streamlined overview of viewer insights.

Additionally, this update coincides with Google granting teens access to Bard in most countries worldwide. The tech giant highlighted in a blog post that teens can leverage Bard to “find inspiration, explore new hobbies, and tackle everyday challenges.” They can ask Bard about essential topics, like selecting the right universities, or more entertaining subjects, such as how to pick up a new sport.

YouTube is testing innovative generative AI features, including a comments summarizer and a conversational tool, as Google expands Bard AI access to teenagers.
