Google launched its annual Google I/O developer conference with a strong emphasis on artificial intelligence (AI). The company's flagship AI model, Gemini, has received significant upgrades, with Gemini 1.5 Pro now capable of analyzing longer documents, codebases, videos, and audio recordings. Additionally, Google is introducing Gemini Live, which allows users to engage in in-depth voice chats, and Gemini Nano, designed for use on Chrome desktop.
On the generative AI front, Google unveiled Veo, a tool that enables users to input text prompts and receive 1080p video clips that are approximately a minute long.
However, Google isn't just focused on new AI products; it's also integrating AI capabilities into its essential services. For instance, Gmail users will soon have the opportunity to utilize Gemini to search, summarize, and draft emails, as well as tackle more complex tasks such as completing online return forms.
Moreover, AI is set to enhance the search experience through AI Overviews, which are summaries of search results being rolled out to millions of users across the U.S. While this development may concern online businesses, Google assures that these overviews will not be displayed when traditional search results suffice. Interestingly, during testing, the overviews increased user clicks to a wider variety of websites.
