Honor Zhao Ming's MWC Shanghai Interview: Developing AI-Driven Eye Care Solutions Addressing User Pain Points

At the Shanghai World Mobile Communication Conference (MWC Shanghai) on June 26, Honor CEO Zhao Ming delivered an engaging keynote titled "In the Era of AI Symbiosis, Intelligent Devices Will Empower Humanity." He introduced two innovative edge-AI technologies—AI Focus Protection and AI Face Swap Detection—developed from Honor's comprehensive four-tier AI strategic framework. Over the last two years, AI has dominated discussions across the tech industry, with many brands exploring its potential. Honor distinguishes itself through its creativity and technical advancements in this area.

Building on the "any door" technology unveiled with MagicOS 8.0 earlier this year, Honor highlighted its latest AI applications at MWC Shanghai. Reports indicate that by 2050, nearly 5 billion people globally may be affected by myopia, particularly in Asia. In response, Zhao emphasized that Honor prioritized a user-centric approach in developing AI Focus Protection. By examining technologies like defocusing glasses and integrating AI algorithms, Honor has created a solution that mimics the effect of defocusing lenses, effectively reducing eye strain during screen use and enhancing visual comfort.

The AI Face Swap Detection technology, a pioneering edge-AI anti-fraud feature, autonomously identifies visual elements in users' video calls. If it detects AI-generated face swapping, the system quickly alerts the user, demonstrating Honor's commitment to harnessing advanced AI for enhanced user safety.

Earlier this month, Apple unveiled its own AI initiatives and rollout timeline at the WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference), positioning itself prominently in the tech landscape. Leveraging its extensive software, hardware, and ecosystem strengths, Apple’s entry into AI prompts industry-wide re-evaluation of strategies. Zhao pointed out that while Apple focuses on exclusive AI features for its flagship iPhone 15 Pro models, Honor is dedicated to democratizing AI capabilities like "any door" for a wider range of devices.

In summary, Zhao Ming underscored Honor's mission of "AI for All," aiming to make cutting-edge AI technologies accessible to a broader audience, in contrast to Apple's approach of limiting upgrades to select premium models.
