For just $20 a month, a ChatGPT Plus subscription unlocks much more than access to GPT-4; it opens the door to a wealth of advanced features, including the ability to create your own custom GPT chatbot. With a bit of guidance, you can design a chatbot tailored to your needs—no coding experience required! The results can be truly impressive.
To utilize the new Custom GPT feature, you will need a GPT Plus subscription. Be sure to sign up or consider borrowing a free trial if you’re eager to get started.
Creating Your Custom GPT:
Using ChatGPT will often involve your own custom GPT model, and here’s how to create one:
Step 1: Visit the ChatGPT website or launch the ChatGPT app and log in.
Step 2: Click the "Create a GPT" button located at the top of the page.
Step 3: Name your Custom GPT and provide a description along with custom instructions. Think of these instructions as a preamble that only your specific chatbot will utilize.
Step 4: Use the Preview window on the right to observe how the AI functions. You can input prompts to evaluate its performance and adjust the instructions on the left to refine its behavior until it meets your expectations.
Step 5: You can also enhance your AI's performance by adding specific data for it to reference, such as documents and files. Test how these additions impact the AI's responses, and consider altering the instructions accordingly.
Step 6: Adjust the capabilities of your AI as desired. Choose whether to enable features like DALL-E art generation, search engine access, or advanced data analytics. Customize which plugins the AI can use, if any.
Step 7: Once you're satisfied with your new custom GPT, click the green "Publish" or "Update" button to finalize your creation. You'll find your custom GPT listed in the left-hand menu alongside OpenAI GPTs and any other chatbot creations you've made.
Sharing Your Custom GPT:
One of the most exciting aspects of the new custom GPT feature is the ability to share your creations. Here’s how to do it:
Step 1: Create a new custom GPT as outlined above, or select the three-dot menu next to your existing custom GPT and choose the edit option.
Step 2: After making any desired changes, click the three-dot menu next to the green Update button instead of clicking it immediately.
Step 3: From the pop-out menu, choose who can access your AI: only you, users of specific plugins, or anyone with a link. To share it broadly, select "Anyone with a link."
Step 4: Once you’ve published or updated your custom GPT, share it by distributing the custom link. Now you can design and share your own custom GPTs. We’d love to hear about your favorite creations!
And don't forget to explore the OpenAI GPT shop. There may be exciting opportunities awaiting those who excel in creating functional chatbots for various needs.
