Intel has launched the new Intel Core Ultra 200S series processor family, designed to enhance AI capabilities for desktop platforms and introduce the first enthusiast AI desktop PCs.
Leading the charge is the Intel Core Ultra 9 processor 285K. This latest generation features five unlocked desktop processors, each equipped with up to 8 next-gen Performance-cores (P-cores) and up to 16 next-gen Efficient-cores (E-cores). Together, these advancements offer up to 14% improved performance in multi-threaded workloads compared to the previous generation.
The Intel Core Ultra 200S series processors are the first desktop processors with integrated neural processing units (NPUs), complementing a built-in Xe GPU that supports advanced media features.
Robert Hallock, Intel's Vice President and General Manager of AI and Technical Marketing, stated, “The new Intel Core Ultra 200S series processors significantly reduce power usage while delivering exceptional gaming performance and leading computational capabilities. Users can expect a cooler, quieter experience enhanced by new AI gaming and creation features backed by the NPU.”
Why It Matters
With innovative core and efficiency enhancements, Intel Core Ultra 200S processors present a remarkable reduction in power consumption—up to 58% lower package power during standard applications and up to 165W lower system power while gaming. They also provide up to 6% faster single-threaded and 14% faster multi-threaded performance compared to their predecessors.
Equipped with complete AI capabilities powered by the CPU, GPU, and NPU, these processors cater to enthusiasts seeking robust performance for content creation and gaming, all while minimizing energy consumption. The Core Ultra 200S series delivers up to 50% faster performance in AI-enabled creation applications compared to competing flagship processors.
The integrated NPU facilitates offloading AI tasks, enhancing gaming performance by freeing discrete GPUs and significantly cutting down power usage for AI workloads. It also supports innovative applications like face and gesture tracking in games.
