Intel has announced a comprehensive suite of new AI solutions, highlighted by an upgrade to its Xeon line of processors during the AI Everywhere event. The company introduced the cutting-edge 5th Gen Xeon Scalable processors, a mere few months following the launch of the fourth generation in January. These advanced processors are specifically engineered to handle AI workloads and high-performance computing with unprecedented efficiency.
The new chips feature an impressive 64 cores, boasting more built-in accelerators than any other data center processor currently available in the market. According to Intel, these CPUs deliver up to 42% higher inferencing performance for large language models and facilitate end-to-end AI processing without the need for supplementary accelerators.
Bearing the code name ‘Emerald Rapids,’ this latest generation of CPUs provides a significant performance boost, showcasing a 21% average uplift and up to 16% improved memory speeds compared to the previous generation, known as 'Sapphire Rapids.' Intel claims these processors represent their most sustainable offering to date, with potential reductions in energy consumption that could lower both operational costs and carbon footprints for customers.
One of the standout features of the 5th Gen Xeon processors is their pin compatibility with older models. This ensures that customers who have already invested in the prior generation can seamlessly integrate the new processors into their existing systems.
The new Xeon chips are set to be available through original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) such as Dell, HPE, and Lenovo, with a scheduled rollout in the first quarter of 2024. Details regarding cloud service availability will be announced in the near future.
