Jasper, the San Francisco-based startup renowned for its generative AI-driven marketing assistant, has announced the acquisition of Stability AI’s image creation and editing platform, Clipdrop.
Although the financial details of the transaction remain undisclosed, Jasper asserts that this acquisition will enhance its creative companion's multimodal capabilities. This integration aims to empower marketing teams to expedite their advertising strategies and craft on-brand creatives more efficiently.
“The addition of Clipdrop to Jasper will advance our vision of becoming the most comprehensive end-to-end marketing copilot in the industry,” stated Timothy Young, CEO of Jasper. “This robust copilot will enable our clients to move beyond simple AI prompts, allowing for more personalized marketing, better-informed automation, and improved optimization across their entire strategy.”
This development is the latest enhancement to Jasper's platform, which is already used by prominent enterprises including HubSpot, Morningstar, Amplitude, and Wayfair.
Enhancing Creative Work with Clipdrop
Jasper's AI copilot has previously supported art generation, allowing users to describe their creative ideas to obtain visual representations. However, generating images alone is insufficient for complex visual campaigns.
This is where Clipdrop's capabilities come into play. Founded in 2020 by Google alumni Cyril Diagne, Damien Henry, and Jonathan Blanchet, Clipdrop empowers users to create or edit images with advanced features such as inpainting, background removal and replacement, object removal, image upscaling, relighting, and face swapping. Users can even generate new images from doodles and prompts, providing endless variations in size, detail, and style to meet project needs.
At its core, Clipdrop leverages Stability AI models, including Stable Diffusion XL and SDXL Turbo. Users can access the platform via a web/mobile interface with both free and paid options or through an API with usage-based pricing.
With the acquisition finalized on February 20, Jasper plans to integrate Clipdrop's features into its AI copilot over the coming months. Meanwhile, teams can access Clipdrop's functionality through Jasper’s API.
The entire Clipdrop team will join Jasper immediately, focusing on advancing multimodality within the company's copilot. The team will remain based in Paris, with Henry assuming a prominent leadership role in research and innovation across the Jasper product line.
“There are natural synergies between the two companies and a clear commitment to creating the best multimodal platform for marketers. We’re excited to begin this collaboration,” Henry remarked.
Importantly, Clipdrop will still offer its subscription service as a standalone product through its website.
Continued Support from Stability AI
While the future evolution of Clipdrop and Jasper unfolds post-acquisition, Stability AI, which recently launched Stable Diffusion 3.0 to revolutionize text-to-image generative AI, has pledged ongoing support for Clipdrop’s technology with its models. Stability AI had acquired Clipdrop in March 2023 for an undisclosed amount.
“We’re excited to see Clipdrop expand its offerings by partnering with Jasper. We will continue collaborating on research and providing our cutting-edge models to their platform,” said Emad Mostaque, CEO of Stability AI.
According to Future Market Insights, the global market for AI-powered tools like Clipdrop, which assist designers in creating digital content, is projected to grow from $4.3 billion in 2023 to $24.7 billion by 2033, boasting a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 17.3%. Other competitors in the AI space include PicsArt, Adobe, and Canva.
