LG CEO William Cho Discusses “Affectionate Intelligence” at CES 2024
At the opening of CES 2024, LG CEO William Cho introduced the concept of "affectionate intelligence," emphasizing AI designed to serve and enhance human experiences.
In the first press session, Cho highlighted LG’s commitment to “responsible AI,” focusing on a people-centric approach that integrates AI with user data (with consent) and the home environment to improve product experiences.
Cho stated, “We are facing our responsibility. While AI means artificial intelligence, at LG, we prioritize affectionate intelligence.” This caring and attentive approach aims to set LG apart in the industry.
For home applications, LG’s affectionate intelligence will manifest in a user-friendly Smart Home AI Agent. LG’s data protection initiative, LG Shield, ensures that user data remains secure and stored on-device. Executive Kihung Jung emphasized the importance of keeping data safe within the home.
Cho affirmed, “We commit to responsible intelligence. You, the customer, should be in control. When you are in control, you can enjoy life to the fullest. Our pledge is to create a better life for our customers, even in the age of AI.”
LG embraces open innovation, introducing the Universal UP Kit to enhance accessibility to LG appliances using sustainable materials. Executive Henry Kim noted that these innovations are designed to ease the burden of cleaning, promoting relaxation at home.
The company plans to create a detailed 3D view of your home accessible through your TV, further enhancing user interaction.
LG's vision for entertainment is “sync to you, open to all.” The company announced its Alpha 11 AI processor, now in its seventh generation, boasting four times the performance of its predecessor. This advancement allows LG TVs and appliances to recognize users, offering a more personalized viewing experience.
Celebrating a decade of LG WebOS, which features 3,000 channels and 5,000 on-demand series, LG is set to introduce AI-powered voice-based games. The platform will be further enhanced through partnerships with Google, integrating built-in Chromecast for seamless casting from mobile devices.
The newly unveiled LG Signature OLED T TV features a transparent design that harmonizes with home aesthetics, according to executive Frank Lee. It also integrates more efficiently with Google Home devices, controllable via the TV interface.
LG envisions the car as a “living space on wheels,” showcasing a concept car equipped with advanced infotainment systems. The vehicle is designed to cater to family needs, allowing users to check on pets, entertain children, and adjust environments for sleeping kids, all while maintaining connectivity to home entertainment via the WebOS platform.
Additionally, LG is establishing its first EV charging factory in Texas, marking a significant step in its commitment to sustainable technology.
