Meta AI Introduces Exciting New 'Imagine Me' Selfie Feature

Meta AI, Meta's AI-powered assistant for Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and the web, has received exciting updates, including support for additional languages and the ability to create stylized selfies. Effective today, users can direct their queries to Meta’s latest flagship AI model, Llama 3.1 405B. The company claims this model is capable of managing more complex inquiries compared to its predecessor, which many reviewers, including Devin Coldewey, found lacking during its initial release. Early versions of Meta AI often struggled with basic tasks like retrieving recipes and airfare information.

The introduction of Llama 3.1 405B could bring significant improvements. Meta asserts that this new model excels at math and coding queries, making it ideal for assisting with math homework, explaining scientific concepts, and debugging code. However, there’s a limitation: users must manually switch to Llama 3.1 405B and are restricted to a specific number of queries each week before Meta AI reverts to a less capable version (Llama 3.1 70B).

This integration is currently labeled as a “preview” by Meta.

Generative Selfies

In addition to Llama 3.1 405B, Meta AI introduces another generative AI model that enhances the selfie feature. Called Imagine Yourself, this model creates images based on user photographs and prompts like “Imagine me surfing” or “Imagine me on a beach vacation.” Available in beta, users can activate this feature by typing “Imagine me” followed by their desired scenario, so long as it’s appropriate.

While Meta hasn’t revealed the training data for Imagine Yourself, its terms of use indicate that it can utilize public posts and images from its platforms. This policy, along with the complex opt-out process, has raised concerns among some users.

New Editing Features

Alongside Imagine Yourself, Meta AI offers new editing tools, allowing users to modify images by adding or removing elements with prompts like “Change the cat to a corgi.” Next month, an “Edit with AI” button will be added for additional customization options. Furthermore, users will soon discover new shortcuts for sharing AI-generated images across feeds, stories, and comments within Meta apps.

Language Support and Quest Integration

Meta AI is also set to replace the Voice Commands feature on the Meta Quest VR headset, with a rollout planned for next month in the U.S. and Canada in “experimental mode.” This will enable users to interact with Meta AI while utilizing passthrough technology, allowing them to ask contextual questions about their physical surroundings. For example, they could inquire, “What kind of top would complete this outfit?” while presenting a pair of shorts.

As of now, Meta AI is available in 22 countries, with recent additions including Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, and Cameroon. The assistant now speaks French, German, Hindi (including Romanized script), Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish, with more languages expected to be added soon.
