At the Meta Connect 2024 conference, CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed that the company is developing an innovative "neural interface" designed to control its upcoming Orion AR glasses. This interface, inspired by technology from CTRL-labs— a brain-machine interface company that Meta acquired in 2019—takes the form of a sleek wrist-worn device. Users can effortlessly navigate apps on the Orion glasses by simply gesturing with the wristband.
“[Orion is] the first device powered by our wrist-based neural interface,” Zuckerberg stated. “[This is a] device that allows you to send a signal directly from your brain to [Orion].” According to The Verge’s Alex Heath, this wristband will be available for purchase soon and will be compatible with Meta’s other augmented reality devices, although the price has yet to be revealed.
The Orion glasses, still in the conceptual phase, represent the next frontier in augmented reality. These glasses feature cutting-edge technology, including tiny projectors embedded in their temples, which create an immersive heads-up display for users.
