Microsoft will introduce new Windows AI features on select AMD and Intel laptops starting in November. AMD has already released laptops capable of meeting the hardware requirements for Microsoft’s Copilot Plus, although these features have initially been available only on Qualcomm devices.
Today, Intel announced its new Core Ultra 200V processors, codenamed Lunar Lake, which will support Copilot Plus features later this year. According to Intel, “All designs featuring Intel Core Ultra 200V processors and running the latest version of Windows are eligible to receive Copilot Plus features as a free update starting in November.”
Microsoft has confirmed that both Intel Lunar Lake and AMD Strix Point PCs will receive a free update to enable Copilot Plus features in November. Some features may be previewed first with the Windows Insider Community before a broader rollout.
Copilot Plus includes several cutting-edge features, such as Auto Super Resolution, a competitor to DLSS that enhances gaming performance by upscaling content. This technology leverages the neutral processing unit (NPU) chips in these systems to reduce the load on the CPU and GPU.
Additionally, Copilot Plus PCs offer image Cocreate capabilities, enhanced Windows Studio Effects, and allow applications like DaVinci Resolve Studio to utilize the NPU chip for improved task acceleration. Microsoft is also working to integrate its Recall AI features into Copilot Plus PCs, aiming for an October release for Windows Insider testers followed by a wider rollout.
