On Wednesday, OpenAI introduced two innovative products: ChatGPT Team and the GPT Store. Their rollout was initially delayed due to internal personnel changes.
ChatGPT Team is tailored for businesses with fewer than 150 users, offering a more streamlined version of OpenAI's enterprise solutions. Priced at $25 per user per month with an annual payment option or $30 for monthly billing, it features a shared workspace that empowers teams to create customized GPT models.
This launch follows the introduction of ChatGPT Enterprise in August 2023, developed in collaboration with over 20 beta partners, including Block. Enterprise plans provide unlimited access to GPT-4, deliver performance enhancements that are twice as fast as previous versions, and offer API credits. OpenAI's Chief Operating Officer, Brad Lightcap, indicated that Enterprise pricing will vary based on each company's specific needs and scale.
The GPT Store marks a significant milestone, with OpenAI reporting that community members have created three million GPT models so far, with an approved selection available for download. The store features a community leaderboard for popular downloads and allows users to search by categories such as writing, lifestyle, and education. OpenAI will soon implement a revenue-sharing program for GPT builders, compensating them based on user engagement.
CEO Sam Altman emphasized at OpenAI's live event in November 2023 that selling intelligence is the core business of OpenAI. He predicts that intelligent agents will become a major trend in the tech landscape. As a frontrunner in the AI sector, OpenAI's initiatives demonstrate its commitment to innovation in order to stay ahead of competitors like Anthropic, Google, and Meta.
By November 2023, ChatGPT had approximately 100 million active users weekly, with over 92% of Fortune 500 companies using the platform. The ChatGPT Team and GPT Store are poised to become new revenue generators for OpenAI, which has been nurturing these projects for some time. Initially, the GPT Store was scheduled for a December launch the previous year, but its development faced disruptions due to Altman's temporary departure and significant board changes.
Industry analysts view OpenAI’s announcements as indicators of its ambitious strategy to enhance product offerings for a competitive edge in the AI arena. If successful, the GPT Store could be a pivotal development, making AI technology more accessible and profitable.
