OpenAI Enhances ChatGPT: Making Responses More Direct and Less Verbose

ChatGPT, OpenAI's popular AI chatbot, has just received a major upgrade.

Today, OpenAI announced exciting enhancements for premium ChatGPT users—those subscribed to ChatGPT Plus, Team, or Enterprise. These users can now utilize an updated version of GPT-4 Turbo, a key model driving the interactive ChatGPT experience.

This new model, known as “gpt-4-turbo-2024-04-09,” offers significant improvements in writing, math, logical reasoning, and coding. OpenAI reports that it also features a more current knowledge base, having been trained on publicly available data up to December 2023. This contrasts with the previous GPT-4 Turbo version, which had a data cut-off in April 2023.

According to OpenAI's announcement on X, “When using this updated GPT-4 Turbo with ChatGPT, responses will be more concise, less repetitive, and reflect a more conversational tone.”

The rollout of this enhanced GPT-4 Turbo comes on the heels of Tuesday's general availability launch of new models in OpenAI's API, particularly the new GPT-4 Turbo with Vision, which introduces image analysis capabilities to the traditionally text-based model. This upgrade follows a tumultuous week for OpenAI. Reports from The Intercept have indicated that Microsoft proposed using OpenAI’s DALL-E text-to-image model for military applications. Additionally, The Information has revealed that OpenAI recently fired two researchers tied to discussions surrounding the leadership of CEO Sam Altman, further complicating the company's internal dynamics.
