OpenAI Enhances Control Features for ChatGPT Enterprise Users

OpenAI has introduced enhanced enterprise controls for ChatGPT Enterprise, focusing on compliance, data security, and scalable access.

The new Enterprise Compliance API offers ChatGPT Enterprise users a comprehensive record of time-stamped interactions, including conversations, uploaded files, metadata, ChatGPT memory, and user workspaces. This feature enables enterprises to efficiently audit the data shared within ChatGPT Enterprise.

In addition to the API, OpenAI has partnered with various third-party compliance providers, allowing users to integrate services from companies such as Forcepoint, Global Relay, Microsoft Purview, Netskope, Palo Alto Networks, Relativity, Smarsh, and zScaler. These integrations support compliance-related tasks, including archiving, audit trails, data redaction and retention, and policy enforcement.

Organizations in highly regulated sectors can utilize these tools to comply with GDPR, HIPAA, and FINRA regulations, providing legal teams with a reliable "paper trail" for data management and ensuring that personal data slated for deletion is properly removed.

User Management Enhancements

As ChatGPT Enterprise often serves numerous users, OpenAI is launching an identity management system to simplify permissions. The System for Cross-domain Identity Management (SCIM) will synchronize user access information, allowing account managers to swiftly provision or revoke access to ChatGPT Enterprise. This feature, currently in beta, is set for a wider release next week and will support integrations with Okta Workforce, Microsoft Entra ID, Google Workspace, and Ping, as well as custom SCIM options.

Expanded Administrative Controls

OpenAI is also providing account administrators with greater control over custom GPTs and specialized chatbots created by employees. Admins can dictate which services these custom models can connect to by selecting approved domains. Previously, admins had limited options for blocking certain GPT actions.

Additionally, administrators can form user groups, manage sharing permissions, remove GPTs, transfer ownership, and approve external GPTs. These features enhance existing capabilities, such as single sign-on, custom data retention, and encryption.

Launched in 2023, ChatGPT Enterprise serves as OpenAI's second paid tier, offering "enterprise-grade security," larger context windows, and faster response times compared to other offerings like ChatGPT Plus and ChatGPT Teams, which caters to smaller user bases.

OpenAI's COO, Brad Lightcap, highlighted that 2024 will be a pivotal year for the company in the enterprise sector, with ChatGPT Enterprise playing a crucial role. The company also offers APIs for businesses to integrate OpenAI's foundational models into their applications.

ChatGPT Enterprise leverages OpenAI’s GPT-4o, and the company has recently introduced GPT-4o mini, a streamlined version of its flagship AI model.
