OpenAI Launches Canvas: The Latest ChatGPT Interface for Enhanced User Experience

OpenAI has launched a new workspace interface for ChatGPT, known as Canvas. Announced on its official blog, this innovative feature is now available to ChatGPT Plus and Team users, with Enterprise and Edu users expected to gain access next week.

Canvas provides a virtual space for writing and coding projects, enabling users to interact with ChatGPT on specific sections of their work. A separate window opens next to the main chat interface, allowing users to place text or code on this "canvas." Users can highlight sections for ChatGPT to focus on, effectively utilizing the model as a copy editor or code reviewer.

To access Canvas, users can type “use canvas” in their prompt, or it can open automatically when the system detects a relevant scenario. Additionally, there are several shortcuts designed for both writing and coding tasks.

For writing projects, users can request suggested edits, modify the length of text, or adjust the reading level—from graduate to kindergarten. The feature even allows for the inclusion of relevant emojis for added emphasis.

For coding, ChatGPT can review code and provide inline suggestions for improvements, as well as annotate with logs and comments to assist in debugging. Users can also leverage Canvas to fix bugs and translate code into different languages, including JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Java, C++, and PHP.

OpenAI's Canvas feature aligns ChatGPT with other AI assistants, such as Anthropic's Artifacts and the coding-focused model Cursor, emphasizing a streamlined approach to specific project components.
