Opera has officially launched its Aria AI assistant on iOS, expanding its availability beyond desktop since its introduction in June. This development is part of Opera's collaboration with OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT. With the addition of Aria, which is now accessible across all major desktop and mobile platforms, the assistant has already amassed over a million users on desktop and Android.
Similar to Microsoft’s Bing Copilot and Google’s Search Generative Experience, Aria can intelligently answer questions and provide context-aware responses based on the active web pages being viewed. It utilizes OpenAI’s GPT API in conjunction with Opera’s Composer architecture for real-time web results. According to Opera, “Aria enhances web navigation and browser functionality, aiding in tasks such as information retrieval, text or code generation, and product inquiries,” as stated by company representative Kseniia Sycheva.
To use Aria, you will need an Opera account, although enrollment is not automatic. Users are encouraged to opt in according to their preference for AI services. Once activated, Aria delivers intelligent insights, creative suggestions, and responsive voice commands. As highlighted by Tech media outlet, you can access Aria through the “more” menu located in the bottom right tab of the Opera iOS app.
In addition to the AI assistant, Opera for iOS features a built-in ad blocker and supports Apple’s Intelligent Tracking Prevention to minimize cross-site tracking. There’s also a complimentary built-in VPN service available. The updated app, now with Aria, can be downloaded in 180 countries, including the US and EU.
