Qualcomm Partners with Mistral AI to Develop New Generative AI Models for Edge Devices

At the Snapdragon Summit held on March 23, Qualcomm announced a collaboration with Mistral AI to develop new generative AI models specifically for edge devices. These models will be integrated into devices powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon technology.

Qualcomm Technologies will introduce Mistral AI's cutting-edge generative AI models, the Ministral 3B and Ministral 8B, into Snapdragon devices, including the Snapdragon 8 Elite mobile platform, the Snapdragon Cockpit Elite for automotive applications, and the Snapdragon X series designed for AI PCs. Ministral 3B and Ministral 8B are the first high-performance commercial AI models created for on-device operation.

Qualcomm noted that Mistral AI's compact models, Ministral 3B and Ministral 8B, are powerful enough for use in smartphones, cars, and PCs. Implementing generative AI on these devices offers numerous benefits including enhanced privacy, reduced latency, increased reliability, cost savings, and improved energy efficiency.

Durga Malladi, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Technology Planning and Edge Solutions at Qualcomm Technologies, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with Mistral AI, emphasizing its potential to bring the latest AI technologies to edge devices.

Arthur Mensch, co-founder and CEO of Mistral AI, highlighted that the collaboration with Qualcomm is a significant milestone. It validates their new models' ability to run natively on Snapdragon platforms, enabling faster local processing while helping to reduce costs and energy consumption.
