Samsung and Google Cloud Unite to Introduce Generative AI on Galaxy S24 Smartphones

Samsung has collaborated with Google Cloud to integrate generative AI into the Galaxy S24 Series smartphones, marking a significant advancement in mobile technology.

The two companies announced their multi-year partnership, which commenced with the Galaxy S24 series launch at the Galaxy Unpacked event in San Jose, California. This collaboration positions Samsung as the first Google Cloud partner to incorporate Gemini Pro and Imagen 2 on Vertex AI into its smartphone devices.

Janghyun Yoon, corporate executive vice president at Samsung Electronics, stated, “Google and Samsung share a commitment to making technology helpful and accessible. We are excited that the Galaxy S24 series is the first smartphone featuring Gemini Pro and Imagen 2 on Vertex AI.”

Gemini Pro is a multimodal AI system enabling users to manage various information types—text, code, images, and video—seamlessly. It enhances Samsung applications like Notes, Voice Recorder, and Keyboard through summarization features while ensuring Google Cloud’s security, safety, privacy, and data compliance.

Users of the Galaxy S24 series will benefit from Imagen 2, Google’s advanced text-to-image diffusion technology, which enhances photo-editing capabilities, including Generative Edit 2 in the Gallery app.

Additionally, Samsung is among the first to test Gemini Ultra, Google’s largest model for complex tasks, and will utilize Gemini Nano, an on-device Large Language Model (LLM) integrated with Android 14 for improved task efficiency.

Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, noted, “With Gemini, Samsung’s developers can utilize Google Cloud’s robust infrastructure and advanced performance to create safe and engaging generative AI applications for Samsung smartphones.”

This partnership aims to elevate Samsung’s technological features, providing users with innovative tools powered by Google Cloud’s state-of-the-art generative AI technologies.

AI was a cornerstone feature of the Galaxy S24 Ultra, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 announcements today. Samsung highlighted how AI enhances nearly every aspect of the Galaxy S24 series—from facilitating smooth communication through intelligent text and call translations to maximizing creativity with Galaxy’s ProVisual Engine and redefining search functionalities for users.

TM Roh, president and head of mobile experience at Samsung Electronics, remarked, “The Galaxy S24 series revolutionizes our world connection and ignites a new era of mobile innovation. Galaxy AI builds on our legacy and understanding of user needs, empowering everyday life with fresh possibilities.”

Samsung's Galaxy AI provides meaningful intelligence aimed at enriching every facet of life, especially communication. The Live Translate feature serves as a real-time voice and text translator for phone calls within the native app, ensuring conversation privacy without the need for third-party apps.

Through the Interpreter feature, live conversations can be translated instantaneously in a split-screen format, allowing participants to read transcriptions without cellular or Wi-Fi connections.

Chat Assist enhances messaging and other applications by refining conversational tones for different contexts, while Samsung Keyboard’s built-in AI translates messages in real-time across 13 languages. Users can also rely on Android Auto to summarize incoming messages and suggest relevant voice command replies, ensuring connectivity while focusing on the road.

Organization is simplified with Note Assist in Samsung Notes, featuring AI-generated summaries, template creation, and cover designs for easy identification. Transcript Assist utilizes AI and Speech-to-Text technology to transcribe, summarize, and translate voice recordings, even when multiple speakers are involved.

With a long press on the home button, users can circle or highlight content on the Galaxy S24’s screen for immediate, high-quality search results. This allows users to quickly gather information about objects or landmarks seen in social media or YouTube without leaving their current app.

Depending on user location, AI-generated overviews for certain searches can provide contextual information pulled from across the web, allowing for more dynamic queries.

The Galaxy S24 series’ ProVisual Engine is a comprehensive suite of AI-powered tools that enhance image-capturing capabilities. It includes the new Quad Tele System with a high optical zoom lens, delivering clear results from 2x to 100x magnification.

Furthermore, the Generative Edit feature allows users to modify images efficiently—filling in backgrounds, adjusting subjects, and generating seamlessly blended edits, all while maintaining image labeling and copyright integrity.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform powers the Galaxy S24 Ultra, optimizing performance for Galaxy users and significantly enhancing NPU capabilities for efficient AI processing. Additionally, all Galaxy S24 models feature 1-120 Hz adaptive refresh rates for improved performance.

Galaxy S24 users can control their data settings through Advanced Intelligence options, allowing them to disable online data processing for AI features in select regions.
