Snapchat+ Offers New Feature: Create and Share AI-Generated Images with Subscribers

Snapchat has unveiled exciting new AI-powered features exclusively for Snapchat+ subscribers, as announced on Tuesday. The standout addition enables subscribers to create and send AI-generated images directly from text prompts. Subscribers can also explore a new AI extend tool and utilize the app’s Dream selfie feature with friends.

To generate AI images, subscribers simply click the “AI” button located on the right side of their screen. This opens a variety of fun prompts, like “a planet made out of cheese” or “a sunny day at the beach.” Alternatively, users can input custom prompts, such as “a dog sleeping on a rocket.” After selecting or entering a prompt, the app begins generating the image. Once completed, users can edit, download, and share their creations with others.

Previously, Snapchat+ subscribers could create AI images for their Bitmoji backgrounds and chat wallpapers, and now they can send AI images to friends directly.

Although Snapchat hasn’t disclosed the specific AI model behind this feature, they mentioned in an email that partnerships with several companies provide foundational models.

Additionally, subscribers can now utilize the Dream feature, which generates whimsical selfies in imaginative scenarios alongside friends. This latest update allows users to create an AI selfie, then choose a friend to appear next to them in the scene. For example, you could generate a portrait of you and a friend as mermaids, which can be sent to them or shared on your story. Snapchat+ subscribers enjoy one complimentary pack of eight Dream images each month.

Another innovative addition is the AI-powered extend tool. If you’ve taken a close-up image of your dog and want a wider view, this new feature can automatically generate a zoomed-out image, seamlessly filling in the background using AI technology.

Snapchat confirms that these features are rolling out now, although availability may vary by region. The announcement reflects Snapchat's commitment to enhancing its AI capabilities while expanding on existing features. Users can already enjoy AI-generated images from the app’s My AI chatbot and have had access to the AI Dream feature for several months.

Snapchat+, launched this past summer, is available for $3.99 USD monthly. The platform currently boasts over 7 million Snapchat+ subscribers, and recent data indicates it experienced its best month yet in terms of in-app revenue. In November, Snapchat+ surpassed $20 million in net revenue (after app store fees) for the first time, with subscription revenue growing in nearly every country where Snapchat+ operates.
