Spotify is expanding its innovative AI feature that creates personalized playlists based on user text descriptions to several more English-speaking countries. Effective immediately, Spotify Premium subscribers in the US, Canada, Ireland, and New Zealand can access the AI Playlist in beta, following its successful debut in the UK and Australia earlier this year.
To find the feature, users can open the mobile app, tap the “+” button at the top right of their library, and select “AI Playlist” from the drop-down menu. This will launch a chat box where users can describe the type of playlist they want, such as “spooky songs for Halloween” or “soothing folk music for a relaxing bath.” The feature also offers suggested prompts to inspire users.
Currently, the AI Playlist beta is not available on the Spotify desktop or web applications. The generated playlists consist of 30 songs, which can be fine-tuned with additional prompts to align more closely with the desired mood—requesting more upbeat tracks, for example. Descriptions that include specific genres, decades, moods, or artists yield the best results. During testing, the AI impressively adapted to niche prompts, such as “make me feel like a vampire hunter from Blade (1998).”
Spotify emphasizes that the feature is still in its learning phase and will continue to evolve, with changes expected to enhance the AI Playlist experience.
