On December 16, the Hong Kong Wireless Technology Industry Association released the findings of a survey on the smart application industry in Hong Kong. The results reveal that 85% of participating Hong Kong businesses are planning to or have already integrated artificial intelligence (AI) into their applications and mobile solutions. This highlights the commitment of Hong Kong enterprises to innovation and enhancing their competitiveness.
The survey, conducted between May and June, included responses from 251 smartphone application companies operating in Hong Kong and other regions in Asia. The data shows a strong inclination toward AI adoption, with 85% of respondents either planning to implement AI or already using it—close to the 93% rate seen in other parts of Asia. Moreover, 46% of the surveyed Hong Kong companies identified AI and machine learning as their primary technology focus for the next one to two years.
Looking ahead, 11% of respondents indicated plans to invest over HKD 500,000 in AI within the upcoming year, which is lower than the 19% seen across Asia. Li Kin-Wah, Chairman of the Hong Kong Wireless Technology Industry Association, noted that while the percentage of companies adopting AI is comparable to neighboring regions, there is still a slight lag. He emphasized the need for the industry to develop comprehensive strategies to accelerate the application of new technologies and expressed hope that the Hong Kong government will support the sector by increasing investments in emerging technologies and addressing workforce shortages to maintain the city's competitiveness.
