The launch of the Rabbit R1 at CES sparked significant interest, and today, the brand revealed the large language model (LLM) that will enhance user interactions. The powerhouse behind this device is Perplexity, a dynamic startup based in San Francisco, poised to rival Google in the AI arena and backed by notable investors like NVIDIA and Jeff Bezos.
The Rabbit R1, priced at $199, will deliver real-time search results powered by Perplexity, without requiring a subscription. Additionally, the first 100,000 buyers will receive a complimentary one-year subscription to Perplexity Pro, typically valued at $200. This premium service offers file upload support, a daily limit of over 300 complex queries, and the ability to switch between various AI models, including GPT-4, Claude 2.1, or Gemini — although these features may not be directly applicable to the R1's functions.
Designed by Teenage Engineering, the Rabbit R1 boasts a 2.88-inch touchscreen, a scroll wheel, dual microphones, a speaker, a rotating camera, and a "Push-to-Talk" button. Utilizing its Large Action Model (LAM), this innovative device can handle tasks such as booking rides, generating recipes based on available ingredients, identifying people and objects (including items in your fridge), and fact-checking, all relying on Perplexity's real-time search capabilities. The Rabbit R1 is currently available for pre-order, with shipments expected in March or April.
