Unveiling AI-Driven Innovations in Manufacturing and Robotics

At its annual product-launch event, Demo Day 2024, Vention, the Montreal-based industrial automation developer, introduced AI-powered enhancements to its cloud-based Manufacturing Automation Platform (MAP).

One highlight of the event was the unveiling of the third generation MachineMotion controller, known as MachineMotion AI, designed specifically for factory robotics applications. This new device serves as a bridge between traditional programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and modern robot programming environments, providing a simplified approach for controlling automated-manufacturing applications like robots, conveyors, and computer-vision systems.

MachineMotion AI, available for pre-order with delivery expected in early 2025, utilizes the Nvidia Jetson platform for edge AI and robotics. This innovation is set to streamline the development and deployment of factory robots for manufacturers of all sizes.

Chief Technology Officer Francois Giguere expressed the significance of MachineMotion AI by stating, “This democratized access to AI-motion-controlled technology will help benefit all manufacturers, from small to large.” Thanks to its AI capabilities, the device enables AI-enabled robots with Nvidia graphics processing unit-accelerated path planning to run 2D/3D perception models trained in synthetic and physical environments, thereby simplifying the development process.

In addition to the hardware updates, Vention also announced enhancements to its MAP software programs, MachineBuilder, and MachineLogic. MachineBuilder now features a generative-AI-powered design assistant, enabling automatic component additions to a robot cell when developers hover over specific areas in the mechanical design. On the other hand, the MachineLogic update includes a Python programming assistant that leverages generative AI to facilitate code generation for programmers.

This update signifies Vention’s commitment to advancing automation solutions through the integration of AI across both hardware and software components.
