Why Greg Brockman Continues to Announce OpenAI Products: Understanding the Ongoing Role and Impact

Former OpenAI President Greg Brockman Shares Updates on ChatGPT Voice Feature

Greg Brockman, the ex-president of OpenAI, who is not currently linked to the organization in any professional capacity, has been actively posting updates regarding OpenAI products on X. His latest post highlights the recently unveiled voice narration feature for ChatGPT, now available for all users.

"ChatGPT Voice has rolled out for all free users. Give it a try — it totally transforms the ChatGPT experience!"

Brockman’s enthusiasm may stem from pride in the accomplishments of his former colleagues. Speculation exists about why he has been posting; perhaps a job offer from Microsoft didn’t materialize, or discussions regarding his return to OpenAI alongside former CEO Sam Altman—who was abruptly dismissed by the board last Friday—are more advanced than previously known. It's worth noting that Brockman resigned in protest that same evening. In the midst of OpenAI's ongoing upheaval, the future remains uncertain.

Amid these developments, the new voice feature for ChatGPT—announced in September and recently rolled out to premium users—employs an advanced text-to-speech model. This feature generates human-like voices from text based on mere seconds of audio samples. OpenAI collaborated with professional voice actors to produce five distinct voices, while the Whisper speech recognition system accurately transcribes spoken words into text.

To activate the voice feature, users can navigate to the settings menu within the ChatGPT app on either Android or iOS and select the “headphones” icon.
