Why Samsung's Copilot+ PC is the Most Exciting Choice of the Moment

We've recently seen a wave of new Windows laptops, and these aren't your typical notebooks. They belong to Microsoft’s innovative Copilot+ PC program, designed from the ground up with AI capabilities and ARM architecture in focus.

Many of these laptops showcase the performance and battery life enhancements brought by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X chips. While all the models have their merits, Samsung’s offerings particularly spark my enthusiasm.

Entering the Copilot+ PC launch, I wondered if any of these new devices could rival the MacBook Air M3. Microsoft has set the MacBook Air as a benchmark for its latest laptops. Although many Copilot+ devices challenge and even outshine the MacBook Air in performance and battery life, some still fall short in terms of slimness. For example, the new Surface Laptop, despite design improvements, remains at 0.69 inches thick, while the MacBook Air M3 is impressively thinner at 0.44 inches.

Thinness isn't admirable for its own sake; it's about leveraging the efficiency of ARM architecture. This allowed Apple to transform its once-inefficient Intel-based MacBook Air into the sleek M2 model. Some Copilot+ laptops come closer to this level, but none hit the mark quite like Samsung's Galaxy Book4 Edge 14 and 16. The moment I spotted these two models, their slim profiles caught my attention, especially the 14-inch version, which measures just 0.43 inches thick—making it officially thinner than the MacBook Air. Notably, the 16-inch variant is only 0.48 inches thick, yet it surprisingly includes an HDMI port.

This excites me because it underscores the efficiency of the new Qualcomm chips, potentially matching Apple’s Silicon performance. Remarkably, while the MacBook Air operates fanlessly, the Galaxy Book4 Edge includes a fan, suggesting sustained performance without a bulkier design. While I'm confident the Galaxy Book4 Edge won't hold the title of thinnest Copilot+ PC forever, I appreciate Samsung’s drive to minimize its size.

AI functionality is another major aspect of the Copilot+ initiative, and the Galaxy Book4 Edge stands out here as well. All these laptops take advantage of Windows' new AI features like Recall, but Samsung’s model uniquely benefits from its integration into the wider Samsung ecosystem.

The Galaxy Book4 Edge introduces a feature that enhances Copilot's usefulness, allowing for complete phone control via natural language commands. Whether you want to send texts or set up navigation, you can now perform these tasks seamlessly from your PC. Additionally, the laptop incorporates features from Samsung’s Galaxy ecosystem, such as Samsung Flow. This is just the beginning, as developers will continue to create tools utilizing Copilot and the NPU of these advanced laptops.

One concern regarding these new Samsung models is their pricing. While choices may be limited, configurations often hover on the higher end of the Copilot+ spectrum. This poses a challenge, especially since the M2 MacBook Air is available at competitive prices. The necessity for 16GB RAM in Copilot+ PCs means that even base models may not be budget-friendly.

Still, if a true competitor to the MacBook Air exists among Windows devices, it certainly seems to be the Galaxy Book4 Edge. Although we need to conduct a thorough review to confirm its standing, it’s certainly at the top of our list of Copilot+ laptops that we are eager to test further.
