Digital health company Withings has unveiled BeamO, a groundbreaking "multiscope" device designed to perform four essential health checks in under a minute.
The BeamO combines the functionalities of a thermometer, electrocardiogram (ECG), oximeter, and stethoscope into a single at-home health checkup device. This innovative multiscope surpasses traditional fitness trackers and single-purpose medical tools, empowering individuals to monitor their health more comprehensively.

Withings aims to enhance telemedicine by enabling users to conduct multiple health tests and share the results with doctors during remote consultations. Traditionally, temperature has been the sole routine health check performed at home; Withings envisions BeamO as a staple in every household, facilitating regular observation of heart and lung health.
Showcased at CES 2024 in Las Vegas, BeamO is set to hit the U.S. market following FDA clearance. It promises to deliver accurate readings from its compact design, which is smaller than a smartphone. The device's combination of a thermometer, ECG, oximeter, and stethoscope allows for comprehensive monitoring, ultimately improving the quality of telehealth visits.
BeamO's sophisticated technology includes photoplethysmography (PPG) and electrodes that measure blood oxygen (SpO2) and heart rate while simultaneously conducting a medical-grade 1-lead ECG. Users can view these real-time measurements on its animated LED display. The device also provides non-invasive temperature readings from the temporal artery, utilizing advanced infrared technology for enhanced sensitivity.
Additionally, BeamO features a digital stethoscope that captures acoustic sound waves through a Piezoelectric disc, enabling precise heart and lung assessments. Results can be streamed live during telehealth sessions, allowing physicians to offer guidance based on the data collected.
With these capabilities, BeamO performs a comprehensive 4-in-1 health checkup—monitoring body temperature, heart, and lung health in under a minute. It alerts users to potential fever and cardiovascular issues, including atrial fibrillation (AfiB), once cleared by the FDA.
BeamO automatically syncs health data with the Withings app via Wi-Fi, creating detailed health records and allowing users to track their health journey over time. The app also enables users to upload medication details, set reminders, and log usage and side effects for better management and communication with healthcare providers.
BeamO is an innovative solution for at-home health monitoring, demonstrating significant potential for enhancing telemedicine. It will be available for purchase at $250 starting June 2024, making it accessible for families looking to take charge of their health.
