Writer Enhances AI Chat Applications with Groundbreaking Features
Writer, a leading enterprise AI platform, has unveiled a suite of powerful updates to its AI chat applications at VB Transform today. These enhancements, which include advanced graph-based retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and new tools for AI transparency, will be available across Writer’s ecosystem starting tomorrow.
Both users of Writer’s off-the-shelf “Ask Writer” application and developers utilizing the AI Studio for custom solutions will gain immediate access to these features. This rollout signifies a major advancement in making sophisticated AI technology more accessible and effective for businesses of all sizes.
Transforming Data Analysis with RAG Technology
At the core of these updates is a significant expansion in data processing capabilities. The enhanced chat applications can now analyze up to 10 million words of company-specific information, enabling organizations to leverage their proprietary data on an unprecedented scale when engaging with AI systems.
Deanna Dong, Product Marketing Lead at Writer, highlighted the importance of this capability: “Enterprises need to analyze extensive files, research papers, or documentation. RAG allows us to perform knowledge retrieval efficiently. Instead of supplying the whole library to the large language model (LLM), we conduct research to pull relevant information and provide the LLM with the right resource notes.”
Innovation in Data Retrieval
Writer’s unique graph-based approach to RAG maps semantic relationships between data points, moving beyond simpler vector retrieval methods. According to Dong, this results in more intelligent and focused information retrieval: “We break data into smaller points and map their semantic relationships. For example, a security snippet links to relevant architecture information, creating a relational data structure.”
Enhancing Transparency in AI Decision-Making
This graph-based RAG system also underlies a novel “thought process” feature that offers transparency into AI reasoning. Users can see the steps the AI takes, including how it deconstructs queries and which data sources it draws from.
“We display the steps taken by the AI,” explained Dong. “When faced with broad or vague questions, we break them down into sub-questions based on logical assumptions.”
May Habib, CEO of Writer, noted the significance of these advancements: “RAG is complex and challenging to implement accurately. In recent benchmarks of various RAG approaches, including Writer Knowledge Graph, we achieved first place in accuracy.”
Customizing User Experience with Dedicated Modes
The updates also introduce dedicated “modes” — specialized interfaces for various tasks, such as general knowledge queries, document analysis, and knowledge graph management. These modes simplify the user experience and enhance output quality by delivering tailored prompts and workflows.
“Customers often struggle with a one-size-fits-all chat interface for all tasks,” Dong stated. “By providing distinct modes, we help ensure they enter precise prompts, making interactions more intuitive and effective.”
Industry analysts view Writer’s innovations as potentially transformative for enterprise AI adoption. The combination of extensive data ingestion, advanced RAG, and explainable AI addresses critical challenges that have prevented many businesses from fully embracing LLM-based tools.
These new features will be automatically integrated into Writer’s pre-built “Ask Writer” chat application and within any custom chat applications built on the Writer platform. This broad availability is expected to accelerate AI integration across various enterprise functions.
“All these features — modes, thought process, and built-in RAG — will make this sophisticated technology highly usable for end users,” Dong added. “While CIOs may be impressed by the built-in RAG, operational teams and HR personnel will primarily benefit from enhanced accuracy, transparency, and usability.”
As enterprises explore responsible and effective ways to leverage AI, Writer’s latest innovations present a compelling vision for transparent, accurate, and user-friendly LLM applications. The coming months will reveal whether this approach can successfully bridge the gap between AI's immense potential and the practical realities of enterprise deployment.
